Statistics from 2006 indicate that business development has continued to grow in the state of Alabama. While the job growth dropped by 1.8%, it remained higher than the United States average. Alabama is well known for its construction industry, as well as its hospitality. These industries saw a rapid growth in 2006, and the labor market maintained its position. The unemployment rate for Alabama is 3.6 percent, much lower than the American average. At the same time, business bankruptcies remained quite high. By the second quarter of 2006, bankruptcy filings in Alabama reached 4.24 for every 1000 residents.

One business industry that has continued to grow in Alabama is real estate. During the first six months of 2006, real estate sales increase by almost 3%, which is much higher than 2005. Despite this, the inventories also increased, and they did so much faster than real estate sales. Much of the real estate sales in 2006 were a result of creative real estate deals, and these deals made up over 20% of sales that occured througout the state. Manufacturing businesses have continued to grow in the state, and this can also be reflected in the employment rates. While the appreciation of homes was quite high, it still did not surpass the national average.

Residential construction is an industry that has continued to grow. Its growth in 2006 was relatively small, and it was 2.4% higher than 2005. Because of Hurricane Katrina, the property insurance industry continues to be prosperous, yet risky for insurance companies. This is bad news for homeowners, who may have had insurance premiums increase by more than 200%. Many insurance companies stopped offering coverage for homes that are located close to large bodies of water. A large number of automobile businesses have been established in Alabama, and this has allowed the manufacturing industry to expand.

However, it should also be noted that manufacturers competing in traditional industries have been put at risk. For example, over 2000 jobs cuts were announced in apparel industry during 2006, and competition from overseas markets has threatened the very profitability of this industry. In contrast, community banks continue to do well in the state. The standard return on investments was 1.27% in 2006, which is higher than 2005. Interest rate increases have also played an important role in this trend. The demand for real estate loans has continued in the state, and this has play an additional role in the success of many local banks.

Alabama stood out from many states in 2006, and the unemployment rate was very low. While traditional manufacturers may be at risk, those who continue to evolve have experienced rapid growth. The real estate market also remained profitable during 2006, and this growth is likely to continue. While the apparel industry has been threatened, this trend is not simply connected to Alabama. It is an issue that has been seen all over the United States, particularly in regions that rely on the sale of apparel.

Alaska Updated Businesses Database 01/07

Records: 30974
Fields: ID, Mailing Address, City, State, Zipcode, Carrier Route, Delivery Point, County, Phone Number, Fax Number, Website, Owner First and Last Names, Contact Title, Owner Sex, Employee Count, Annual Revenue, Sales Volume, Primary and Secondary SIC Codes, SIC Descriptions, Headquarters Type, Firm Type, Metro Area, Office Size, Office Square Footage, Franchise Information
Description: This business database is available for immediate download and contains updated business listings for all Alaska businesses that filed changes of demographic, location or contact information for the month of January 2007.

While Alaska continued to report a higher rate of growth in 2006, the pace begin to slow. This has been seen prominently in the job market, which is a reflection of businesses in the state. By the second quarter of 2006, business growth in Alaska increased by 1.5 percent. At the same time, the growth is not as high as it was in 2005, a trend seen in many western states. The business industries which are growing the fastest include natural resources and retail. Tourism is also popular, and the sell of oil has continued to fuel growth. The industry with the highest rate of growth is natural resources, and the industry with the lowest rate of growth is information.

The natural resources industry is so large that it made up nearly half of all new jobs in 2006. Retail also made up a large percentage of jobs. The northern region of Alaska has been particularly profitable when it comes to natural resources, experiencing a growth of about 5.7 percent. This growth is much higher than the United States average. However, it should also be noted that the Prudhoe Bay was recently shutdown, and this could lead to many employees losing their jobs. In addition to this, halts in oil production could weaken the revenues of the Alaskan government. Statistics show that over 25 percent of Alaskans are employed by the state government.

The real estate business continued to grow during 2006, and the value of houses increased. The real estate growth in Alaska surpassed the national average by nearly 3 percent. The real estate business was particularly successful near the city of Anchorage, and the city experienced a positive population growth during 2006. Not only has the real estate industry continued to grow, houses are much more affordable than other areas within the United States. The growth of the real estate market has opened doors in a number of different industries, most notably construction.

Despite this, the real estate industry has not been without its problems. A number of studies indicate that the number of defaults increased for adjustable rate mortgages. One reason that has been cited for these problems is the rising interest rates, especially for ARMs. While the Alaskan banks reported that they experienced solid earnings during 2006, they also noted that their assets became weaker. Overall, the performance of banks in 2006 was a bit lower than 2005. The weakness of various credit products has become apparent in many financial institutions.

Because of high interest, the value of various investments have continued to weaken. Many investors have experienced losses. The industry with the highest growth in 2006 was natural resources, followed by real estate and manufacturing. It is very likely that Alaska will maintain this growth throughout 2007. Employment with the Alaskan government continued to provide security for many citizens during 2006, and it is the third highest industry behind trade and natural resources. Oil continues to be the most valuable natural resource in the state.

In 2006, the Arizona business market remained one of the highest in the United States. The employment rate grew by 4.8 percent by the second quarter, and this growth occured in multiple industries. The only industry that didnt see significant growth was information. While the job rate remained high in 2006, it was lower than 2005. Like many western states, Arizona has experienced a deceleration in job growth. The housing market slowed in 2006, and because housing is directly connected to construction, the construction industry was adversely affected as well. The three cities which experienced the most growth were Phoenix, Prescott, and Yuma.

The business growth remained quite high in Phoenix. In fact, 3 out of 4 jobs created in Arizona were located in Phoenix. The vast majority of these jobs were in the trade, construction, and business sectors. These are also the businesses that experienced the highest rates of growth. The market which experienced a decline is real estate. By the second quarter of 2006, the sale of homes fail from 27% to 20%. In addition to this, the appreciation of homes dropped. The construction industry has slowed down, and this will put a great deal of pressure on businesses that compete in this field.

The quality of mortgage loans have continued to maintain their stability. For example, the number of loans reaching foreclosure was 0.16%, which is much lower than 2005. This made Arizona one of the lowest states in the nation when it came to foreclosures. When it comes to asset, financial institutions reported that they had strong earnings in 2005. For example the pretax return on assets rate was 1.67%, which is an improvement over 2005, when the rate was 1.54 percent. The credit quality also remains stable. While the level was 0.20 in 2005, it dropped to 0.12 in 2006. Overall, the growth of loans have continued to increase over the last year.

The center for investment was the Phoenix metropolitan area, and this trend is likely to continue in 2007. The statistics for Arizona are very similar to what has been seen in many other western states. The real estate industry is very weak in this state, and it is not a good business model for companies that may want to relocate here. The same could be said for construction. The industry with the highest growth is business services, followed by trade, leisure, and education. The information industry has the lowest growth in Arizona, and the natural resources industry closely follows it.

The business growth from 2006 shows that business services will continue to become dominant, as well as trade and leisure. Phoenix experienced population growth, along with the cities of Prescott and Yuma. Even though the real estate industry has weakened, credit products have continued to maintain their stability. Educational businesses continued to remain high during 2006, and this industry was closely followed by jobs that are government related. The manufacturing industry was one of the weakest industries in the state, along with natural resources.

The Arkansas banking industry experienced record growth during 2006. The net income for this industry went from $127 million to $139 million between the first and second quarter. The total assets for the banks in Arkansas sit at approximately $1 billion. The rapid growth of the banking industry has also been seen in loans, which were 10% higher than 2005. Despite this, the business sector experienced a deceleration in growth during 2006. By the second quarter of 2006, employment increased by 1.2%. The businesses which are growing the fastest are those which are government related. The service sector also experienced growth in 2006.

The job growth rate fell during 2006. Some of the things which contributed to this effect are tremendous job losses in the manufacturing industry. In addition to this, the utilities, transportation, and trade sectors experienced a decline in growth during 2006. These are the industries where business growth has suffered the most, and these trend indicate that Arkansas is not a good state for start up companies in these sectors. In addition to the manufacturing industry, the housing market has also experienced a decline. A number of statistics from the Arkansas Realtors Association indicated that sale of homes was down by more than 9 percent.

Home sales were down for five straight months during 2006, and the decline in sales are particularly evident for new homes. The region that experienced the largest decline in home sales was the Fayette-Springdale-Rogers metropolitan center. Not only is the sale of new homes slowing in this state, but the appreciation of homes is slowing as well. The appreciation and decline in sales indicates that the demand for real estate has fallen in the last year. However, it should also be noted that this trend isnt specific to Arkansas. Many states in the U.S. have also experienced a similar decline in real estate sales.

One of the best things about the Arkansas housing market is affordability. The income of households in this state have kept pace with the real estate costs, and this has allowed them to use more traditional mortgages, which is a sharp contrast to other states. While the sale of new homes declined in 2006, the cost for apartments and homes were found to be the lowest in the United States, making the state highly affordable. While the manufacturing industry has experienced a decline, government related jobs continue to grow. It is very likely that this trend will continue in 2007. Like many other states, service sector jobs have continued to maintain a steady growth.

The banking industry saw an increase in profits during 2006. While the appreciation of their assets were not as high as expected, loans and other credit products remained popular. The businesses that competed in sectors such as trade and manufacturing have continued to be weakened by various factors, some of which are external, and others which are internal. Despite this, the low cost of living and affordability of real estate has made Arkansas a popular place to live.

Colorado is a state that has continued to maintain growth compared to other states, especially in the area of jobs. However, statistics from 2006 indicate that this trend may be slowing. However, the business industry has remained relatively stable. The growth of businesses in Colorado was higher than the national average. The businesses in Colorado contributed to the creation of 48,000 jobs during the second quarter of 2006. The unemployment rate for Colorado was exceptionally low, sitting at approximately 4.4% by the end of 2006. It should be noted that this is much lower than the national average.

However, the Federal Reserve Bank indicated that the business growth in Colorado slowed by the second quarter of 2006. Some of the things that were responsible for this trend were increasing interest rates and rising energy costs. If these trends continue, the state may begin to experience a slow growth in 2007. One of the business industries that has expanded the most in this state is mining. The increasing cost of energy is directly connected to this field, and the growth of the sector is a direct result of it. The growth of mining is expected to create a domino effect that will also allow growth in the manufacturing, wholesale, and transportation businesses. Trade is also expected to grow.

The businesses that experienced the weakest growth during 2006 were the Information Technology and manufacturing industries. Despite the fact the electronic manufacturing created over one hundred thousand jobs since 2001, there were not increases in this sector during 2006. In addition to this, electronics manufacturers cut over 4,000 jobs during the 2006 year. Because these jobs have traditionally paid large wages, job losses will effect the state economy more than other industries. For example, the maximum amount workers were paid in this industry was $1,800, a thousand dollars more than the state average, which was approximately $800.

While manufacturing businesses were weak in 2006, statistics indicate that they have become more stabilized. The studies conducted on this sector indicate that it is experiencing growth, and this is due in part to the increase in energy prices. These trends indicated that the manufacturing industry will continue to grow in 2007, as long as energy prices remain stable. Much like other states in the U.S., the housing market became weaker during 2006. One of the things that has led to this trend is increasing interest rates and housing prices. The sell of single family homes fail by over 2% during 2006.

It should also be noted that the number of building permits has fell in Colorado. Foreclosures increased in 2006, and statistics indicated that foreclosures reached their highest level in 10 years. These foreclosures seem to be a direct result of increased interest rates and housing properties. Unlike other states, the income of residents has not kept pace with the housing prices, and the loss of jobs in the electronics/computer manufacturing has amplified this trend. The decline of the real estate industry in Colorado is very similar to what has been seen in other states.

Connecticut Updated Businesses Database 01/07

Records: 81583
Fields: ID, Mailing Address, City, State, Zipcode, Carrier Route, Delivery Point, County, Phone Number, Fax Number, Website, Owner First and Last Names, Contact Title, Owner Sex, Employee Count, Annual Revenue, Sales Volume, Primary and Secondary SIC Codes, SIC Descriptions, Headquarters Type, Firm Type, Metro Area, Office Size, Office Square Footage, Franchise Information
Description: This business database is available for immediate download and contains updated business listings for all Connecticut businesses that filed changes of demographic, location or contact information for the month of January 2007. Complete Connecticut marketing information is available for each of the businesses in this website content database. This Connecticut download database can be purchased as a single item using the links provided or you can subscribe to our Updated Businesses Database Service.

The appreciation of homes fail in Connecticut during 2006. This has led many real estate experts to suspect that this industry is decelerating. In 2004 and 2005, home appreciation reached its peak, and the trends from 2006 are not surprising. The declining appreciation of homes has been prevalent throughout the state, and is not simply connected to one city or region. The sale of single family homes fail during 2006, and this has had an adverse effect on the real estate industry. Despite this, it should also be noted that the volume of home sales remained higher than the historical average. The construction business became weak during 2006.

While the construction industry reached its zenith during 2004, the number of building permits issued in 2006 fell by 16 percent. This trend was seen all over the state of Connecticut. While the decline in building permits has been seen with various types of real estate, it has been particularly pronounced with single family homes. Amazingly enough, employment in the construction industry remained relatively stable. By the second quarter of 2006, employment in this sector did experience a slight decline, one that will increase if real estate sales continue to fall. One business sector that has continued to experience growth is office employment.

While the office employment sector remained fairly high during 2006, it has begin to see a small decline. The number of rents increased as a reflection of the inflation rate. The industrial market also fail from 17% to 12%. The financial institutions in the state of Connecticut reported high capital growth during 2006. While there was a bit of a decline, the capital ratio has continued to increase. Some of the things which have facilitated this growth are decent earnings and reduced loan expenses. While the real estate market was weak in 2006, this trend was not reflected in real estate defaults.

For example, the number of mortgage loans in default were quite low. While the national average for past due loans was 1.2%, the number of past due loans in the state of Connecticut was approximately 0.35%. The manufacturing industry was quite weak during the 2006 year. Statistics show that growth in the manufacturing industry sat at -1.1% during the second quarter of 2006. Other industries that saw a decline during 2006 were the goods/production industry, which sat at a -3.1%. These two industries have experienced a decreased decline from 2004 to 2006, and these trends may continue in 2007.

The manufacturing industry is one of the weakest industries in Connecticut. Like many other states, the housing market experienced a decline, especially for single family units. Unlike many other states, the number of past due mortgage loans in Connecticut were relatively low. Government jobs in this state were fairly stable, and while there was some stability in the construction industry, statistics show that construction employment experienced a slight decline.

Business development grew strongly in Washington DC during 2006. A number of statistics indicate that well over 30,000 jobs were added during the first quarter. By the second quarter of 2006, Washington DC experienced a growth rate of 1.5 percent. While it was a bit lower than the first quarter, it was still higher than the national average. The employment growth in this region continued to remain stable throughout 2006, outpacing many other states in the U.S. In addition to Washington DC, economic growth was particularly pronounced in the Bethesda metropolitan center. The businesses which grew the fastest were those related to research and development, as well as the service sector.

The unemployment rate for Washington DC was approximately 4.1 percent, which is lower than the national average. The businesses in the Washington DC area created approximately 62,000 jobs by August. However, it should also be noted that nearby states such as Maryland have experienced a deceleration in job growth, and this may also be reflected in Washington DC. Real estate has increased in this region, and the real estate market stood at 9%, much higher than the national average of about 7%. It should also be noted that the rental industry has become tighter. The sale of real estate has went from sellers to buyers.

Overall, the sale of single family homes fell in Washington DC. In contrast, the sale of condominiums have continued to increase. While the appreciation of housing is much higher than the national average, it fell to over 16% by the second quarter of 2006. In the Bethesda region, the appreciation of housing fell to below 12%. The price of housing will continue to be heavily dependent on employment and interest rates, as well as the cost of the homes. These factors will be effected by business growth in the region. While the housing market in Washington DC has become much slower, the rental industry experienced an expansion.

The performance of banks in Washington DC remained high during 2006. While the return on assets was 0.83% during the first quarter of 2006, it rose to 0.91% by the second quarter. While the cost of funding continued to increase, the banking industry dealt with these factors by working with assets that gave them higher yields. Because of this, the net margin for interest is a bit higher than 4 percent. The performance of loans remain high in Washington DC. The number of past due credit products experienced a decline in 2006, and the percentage for loans in default was approximately 0.79 percent.

Like many other states, the manufacturing industry was negative in 2006, sitting at -2.1 percent. At the same time, the service producing industry remained positive at 1.9 percent. The unemployment rate was 3.8%, and government jobs were relatively strong, which should be expected in this region. The sale of single family homes was one of the weakest business industries in the region, and the rate for 2006 was approximately -20.1 percent.

Delaware Updated Businesses Database 01/07

Records: 33184
Fields: ID, Mailing Address, City, State, Zipcode, Carrier Route, Delivery Point, County, Phone Number, Fax Number, Website, Owner First and Last Names, Contact Title, Owner Sex, Employee Count, Annual Revenue, Sales Volume, Primary and Secondary SIC Codes, SIC Descriptions, Headquarters Type, Firm Type, Metro Area, Office Size, Office Square Footage, Franchise Information
Description: This business database is available for immediate download and contains updated business listings for all Delaware businesses that filed changes of demographic, location or contact information for the month of January 2007. Complete Delaware marketing information is available for each of the businesses in this website content database. This Delaware download database can be purchased as a single item using the links provided or you can subscribe to our Updated Businesses Database Service.

The Delaware business market experienced tremendous growth during 2006. The total employment growth rate for this state was 1.6 percent by the second quarter. It should be noted that this was slightly higher than the national average, which was 1.4 percent. The two months were growth was very evident is in August and July. The unemployment rate was low, a reflection of the business growth in the region. Statistics show that the labor market was very tight in 2006, with an umeployment rate of 3.7 percent. While business growth was high throughout the state, the growth was very evident in the Wilmington metropolitan area.

Some of the business sectors that grew the fastest during 2006 was government, health, and professional services. However, it should be emphasized that there were industries that declined in the state. Some of these were manufacturing, tourism, and hospitality. While the job growth in Kent County is relatively slow, it has slowed at a much lower pace than Sussex County. While the real state industry has declined in many states, it has been a source of growth in the state of Delaware. For instance, job growth in the real estate industry played a role in over 20% of the job growth experienced during 2006 and the four previous years.

While growth in the real estate industry remained positive during 2006, statistics show that this industry has slowed down. Despite this, it is still much higher than the national average, expanding three times higher than the national rate. The housing market in Delaware has transformed from a sellers market into one that is buyer based. While employment in the real estate industry has remained stable, the sale of homes has continued to experience a decline. By the second quarter of 2006, home sales fell by more than 2 percent. This is the first time that housing prices has fell in the state since the year 2000.

The appreciation of homes fell during the second quarter of 2006. Statistics show that the rate dropped to almost 12 percent. This is the lowest rate that Delaware has experienced in two years. Many homeowners in this state have been put under increased amounts of stress. One reason for this is the large number of people who are using adjustable rate mortgages. A number of studies indicate that the number of people who took out these mortgages were more susceptible to payment shock once the interest rates on their loans increased.

Overall, 2006 was an excellent year for the state of Delaware. The number of businesses continue to grow, and this trend can be seen in the number of jobs that were available. However, the manufacturing industry experienced a decline, as well as the sale of homes. The number of people borrowing non-traditional mortgages has led situation where homeowners are much more likely to default on their payments, especially if interest rates continue to rise. It should also be noted that the growth of office space has continued to increase in the state, especially in the Wilmington Metropolitan area.

Florida maintains a world-class business climate, as shown by our years of positive job growth and economic success. However, we must build on these successes in order to boost economic opportunities for all Floridians”, states Susan Story, Board of Directors Vice Chair for Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI), an organization based in Orlando and whose primary goal is expanding Floridas economy and devising higher-paying jobs for Floridians through its partnership of Floridas leading business and government leaders.

Florida remains a fluid economy. Floridas performance is one of the top rated leading US states due to strong population expansion and high-growth industries. “Our vision is for Florida to be a global leader in knowledge-based jobs, leading-edge technology and competitive enterprises in the 21st Century,” said EFI President and CEO John Adams. It seems that EFIs vision is becoming a reality.

EFIs main focus is on Floridas business, education, government and economic development leaders uniting in a secure economic future through a series of strategic planning meetings that optimistically ensure the states financial success. These meetings develop a forum for discussion on issues as varied as initiating, maintaining and attracting high-value jobs; establishing a world-class workforce; advocating affordable housing; strengthening infrastructure and preserving Floridians quality of life. The outcome and information gathered at the meetings will be included in the five-year Statewide Strategic Plan for Economic Development, known as the “Roadmap to Floridas Future”. These meetings are a sounding board for top-ranking Florida officials to have an open discussion with lower-level regional business and community leaders to analyze and determine crucial economic priorities for their region and the state.

Governor Bush implemented this political strategy in 2004, with a goal of completion in 2009. Since this plan was put into action, over 1,000 business, community and economic development leaders have taken part in this large-scale economic overhaul. EFI presents consistent reports to Governor Bush on the progress of this ‘Roadmap. At the onset of this plan in 2004, one of the main goals addressed was to create more leading jobs for Floridians and, in point of fact, the state has undoubtedly begun to accomplish its goals. In 2006, the state passed a succession of landmark economic development enterprises to increase Floridas Innovation Economy. The state was provided $245 million in incentive payments to support the extension of critical industries. One of these milestone provisions created the 21st Century Technology, Research and Scholarship Enhancement Act, Space Florida and dispenses significant tax exemptions for machinery and equipment allocated for research, development and manufacturing.

This Five Year Plan has ensured that Florida has preserved its top ranked spot in job growth for 40 uninterrupted months. The plan has successfully encouraged the implementation of its key focus towards International Trade and has seen a rise of funds from $45.9 billion to $81.9 billion, annually, since its inception. This results in an increase of $35.5 million. The ‘Roadmap has also drawn attention to the commerce-driven incentive policies in economic development of ‘Rural Areas of Critical Economy Concern (as coined by the Governor). The overall rise of Floridas Gross State Product accounted for 5 percent of the nations GSP in 2004, and has matured by 21 percent in the past five years, competing with 14 percent for the U.S. economy in its entirety.

Finally, in the arena of high-tech exports, Florida has fostered immense potential, remaining third in the US in 2005, increasing by 16.2 percent over the previous year to reach $10.95 billion. Florida ranked first in the nation for the numeric growth (total dollars added) in high-tech exports, adding over $1.5 billion from 2004-2005, and second in the nation for total dollars added in high-tech exports from 1999-2005 (over $2.9 billion).

While business development improved in Indiana during 2006, it was still much lower than the national average. Since business is directly related to employment, the employment industry was a reflection of the business growth. By the second quarter of 2006, job growth in Indiana grew by only 0.7 percent. At the same time, it continues to be lower than the national average. The service sector had a slow rate of growth, growing at only 0.9 percent, which is just over 19,000 jobs. The job growth for the country as a whole was 1.4 percent. One business sector that is expected to grow is the transportation industry.

Honda recently announced that they plan on building a half a billion dollar auto plan in Decatur County, and this is expected to create a large number of jobs in the region. The construction for this facility will begin in 2008. While the real estate market has slowed, the deceleration is medium compared to the United States as a whole. By the second quarter of 2006, the sale of single family homes increased to approximately 4.8 percent. While this was not as high as 2005, it was much higher than many other states. It should be noted that the sale of homes fell by 7 percent at the national level. The appreciation of homes also slowed in 2006.

While the appreciation of homes was 5.2 percent in 2005, it fell to 2.8 percent during 2006. Much like Delaware, many homeowners in Indiana are facing high level of financial stress. The number of foreclosures increased to 3.9 percent by the second quarter of 2006. One reason for these foreclosures are non-traditional mortgage options such as adjustable rate mortgages. A number of studies consistently show that homeowners with adjustable rate mortgages are much more likely to lose their homes. The office market for rental properties has greatly increased. Studies from 2006 indicate that this market rose to 4 percent by the second quarter.

The financial institutions in Indiana reported high growth during 2006. Their total assets were in excess of $1 billion, and the number of loans in default was 1.8 percent. With the vast majority of standard loan products, the number of defaults fell. However, real estate loans saw a slight increase of approximately 2%. The loans to asset ratio is over 70%. The manufacturing industry was fairly low. The unemployment rate for the state of Indiana was 5% in 2006, and the manufacturing industry set at 0%, one of the lowest in the nation. The highest industry in Indiana is the goods/manufacturing industry, which sits at 1.8%.

Indiana is a state that did not experience a large amount of growth. With companies such as Honda planning the construction of factories in the region, it is very likely that employment rates will improve. The banking industry continued to see improvements, and the office space market also expanded. While the manufacturing industry has a lot of room for growth, it is likely that this will occur by the end of the decade.

Kansas Updated Businesses Database 01/07

Records: 124014
Fields: ID, Mailing Address, City, State, Zipcode, Carrier Route, Delivery Point, County, Phone Number, Fax Number, Website, Owner First and Last Names, Contact Title, Owner Sex, Employee Count, Annual Revenue, Sales Volume, Primary and Secondary SIC Codes, SIC Descriptions, Headquarters Type, Firm Type, Metro Area, Office Size, Office Square Footage, Franchise Information
Description: This business database is available for immediate download and contains updated business listings for all Kansas businesses that filed changes of demographic, location or contact information for the month of January 2007. Complete Kansas marketing information is available for each of the businesses in this website content database. This Kansas download database can be purchased as a single item using the links provided or you can subscribe to our Updated Businesses Database Service.

Kansas experienced a large number of job losses during 2006. This is a sign that business development in the state is low. A number of statistics show that Kansas only added about 2,000 jobs by the second quarter of 2006, which is lower than 2005. In addition to this, many employees lost their jobs in the transportation, utilities, trade, and manufacturing industries. In addition to this, the information sector also saw a large decline during 2006. There were some jobs added in the areas of food processing and other disposable goods, but only 1500 jobs are expected to be added to manufacturing during the next three years, a dismal amount when you consider the total population of the state.

The high cost of energy has played a prominent role in the decline of jobs during 2006. The information sector has lost jobs at a tremendous rate, and the primary reason for this is restructuring by large companies. The financial institutions in Kansas have reported solid interest margins. Agricultural businesses are also suffering in Kansas, primarily because of drought. Droughts became a tremendous problem during the first quarter of 2006, and drought conditions are now present througout much of the state. Because of higher than normal temperatures and low precipitation, over 70 percent of the top soil is very dry.

The yield for agricultural products such as corn and wheat will be reduced. Livestock are having problems due to reduced amounts of water. This has made agriculture one of the most risky industries in the entire state. Because of the challenges encountered when caring for livestock, many farmers have reduce the sizes of there herds, increasing the prices of their livestock. Public water supplies have also experienced problems due to the drought. A number of suppliers througout the state has passed restrictions on the use of water. The World Trade Organization has stopped negotiations for future payments for farmers, and this has created more instability for those employed in the agricultural industry.

The farmers in Kansas rely heavily on payments from the federal government, and any decision made by the WTO can effect them in a positive or adverse manner. One industry that experienced rapid growth in Kansas in 2006 was construction. The construction industry grew by a rate of over 5% by the second quarter, much higher than the previous three years. Many banks have benefited from the construction boom, since many developers will need funding before they can begin development. The growth of such loans increased by more than 15%.

Overall, 2006 was a bad year for Kansas. Few states in the U.S experienced a decline in growth in so many industries, and drought conditions throughout the state have only amplified these problems. It is very likely tha the drought conditions in the state will lead to an increase in water prices, which will be compounded by high energy prices. The only industries to truly see growth during 2006 are the banking and construction industries. The growth of credit products also increased.

While the real estate market experienced rapid gains in the previous four years, it begin to decelerate in 2006, especially during the first quarter. The deceleration of housing appreciation has been prevalent throughout Maine. It is especially evident in the major cities. By the second quarter of 2006, the prices saw a steady decline. The sale of single family homes was quite low during the second quarter, but like Connecticut, the volume was high in comparison to the historical average. As can be expected, the sale of real estate has also had an effect on the construction industry.

It should also be noted that despite the fact that the sale of real estate declined, employment in the construction sector remained relatively stable. Despite this, statistics show that employment in construction may decline if real estate sales do not improve. One industry that maintained its growth during 2006 was tourism, which has always been important for the state of Maine. A number of studies indicate that the tourism industry in Maine has grown by over 3% over the last five years. Over 60 percent of jobs created in the last five years can be attributed to the tourism industry. This includes businesses such as entertainment, restaurants, and bars.

Despite this, it should be noted that growth in the tourism industry is not as rapid as New Hampshire, a state which sits close to Maine. In comparison, the national average for tourism is almost 8 percent. The tax revenue of the state has also played an important role in the growth of the tourism industry. Retail spending play a significant role in the revenues generated in Maine during 2006. Restaurants came in at a close second, and recreation/lodging was a close third. The financial institutions in the state continued to repot high earnings and growth. It should also be noted that real estate loans have a low level of default in this state.

For example, financial institutions in Maine reported that median for defaulted loans was approximately 0.86 percent for residential real estate. This is much lower than the national average, which sits at about 1.2 percent. These statistics were taken from the second quarter of 2006. While the loans for residential real estate continued to increase, the growth of loans may decelerate during the short term. Overall, the housing market in Maine has slowed. Like many other states, statistics form 2006 shows that the manufacturing industry was negative. In the case of Maine, it was a -4.3 percent. The unemployment rate was 4.4%, and government jobs continued to remain positive.

The personal income for the state of Maine was 5.5%, and various types of real estate were negative. Permits for the construction of single family homes was -12.8 percent, and multifamily units sat at a -40 percent. Existing home sales were much more positive at 1.5%. The businesses which experienced the highest rates of growth during 2006 were those that are related to tourism or hospitality.

Businesses in Maryland continued to have increased growth during 2006. By the second quarter of 2006, nearly 40,000 jobs were added in the state. While the growth rate of 1.5 percent was lower than the first quarter of the year, it was still higher than the national average. The best months of job growth for Maryland were July and August. The growth rate for businesses in Maryland have continued to surpass many states within the U.S. Much of the job growth in this state is directly connected to the growth that was experienced in Washington DC. Some of the businesses which have experienced the most growth are those that are connected to the service sector or research and development.

While the unemployment rate in this state increased to 4.1 percent during August, it was still much lower than the average for the United States. By the end of August, employment opportunities in Maryland increased to beyond 60,000. It should also be noted that the real estate industry has experienced a deceleration in growth. This deceleration is much faster than the national average. For the most part, jobs in the real estate industry have played an important role in the growth of the state. Over the last five years, real estate has played a role in over 20% of the employment growth throughout the state.

It should be emphasized that real estate accounts for almost 10% of the workforce population. The housing market has transformed from a seller based industry into one that is geared towards buyers. It should also be emphasized that the rental market has become much tighter. The sale of single family homes declined in 2006, but the inventory for homes have greatly increased. While the appreciation for homes in Maryland is much higher than the U.S. average, it still experienced a decline in 2006.

The decrease of housing in Maryland has effected the rental market. The rental rates for apartments have continued to increase. Because of the increased cost of apartments, the vacancy rate in Maryland remained very low, the lowest rate in 10 years. The performance of the banking industry remained high during 2006. While the return on assets was only 0.83% during the first quarter, it rose to 0.91 percent by the end of the second quarter. Because of the increased cost of funding, many financial institutions have begun using assets that give them higher yields.

Government related jobs accounting for sizeable percentage of employment during 2006. In addition to this, the performance of loans continued to do well, bringing significant profits to the banking and loan industry. The past due ratio was exceptionally low. While this ratio was 0.81 percent in 2005, it fell to 0.79 percent in 2006. This also means that Maryland is much lower than the national average, which sits at approximately 1.27%. Overall, Maryland is a state that remained stable during 2006. Business growth in field such as research and development have continued to make the state more popular.

Records: 343603
Fields: ID, Mailing Address, City, State, Zipcode, Carrier Route, Delivery Point, County, Phone Number, Fax Number, Website, Owner First and Last Names, Contact Title, Owner Sex, Employee Count, Annual Revenue, Sales Volume, Primary and Secondary SIC Codes, SIC Descriptions, Headquarters Type, Firm Type, Metro Area, Office Size, Office Square Footage, Franchise Information
Description: This business database is available for immediate download and contains updated business listings for all Massachusetts businesses that filed changes of demographic, location or contact information for the month of January 2007. Complete Massachusetts marketing information is available for each of the businesses in this website content database. This Massachusetts download database can be purchased as a single item using the links provided or you can subscribe to our Updated Businesses Database Service.

The real estate industry in Massachusetts slowed during 2006, especially in metropolitan areas such as Boston. While the housing market experienced gains between 2004 and 2005, they remained unchanged during the first quarter of 2006. Despite this, it should be emphasized that housing depreciation was not even for all the cities and towns. While housing gains remained somewhat moderate in places such as Springfield, and they were much stronger in places such as Pittsfield. The sale of single family homes was decreased greatly during the second quarter of 2006.

Since the construction industry is directly related to the real estate market, it shouldnt come as a surprise that this industry also declined during 2006. While there was a bit of a peak during the first quarter of 2006, it fell dramatically during the second quarter. In contrast, the demand for office space is quite high, especially in the city of Boston. The technology sector has experienced a massive downturn, a large number of people have lost their jobs, especially in the Boston metropolitan area. The cost of office space in Massachusetts increased during 2006.

Office related businesses saw a decline in 2001, but they saw improvements during 2006. Despite this, statistics indicate that office jobs will not become fully prominent until after 2011. The industrial sector has continued to see growth in this state, and this has helped the vacancy rate in many properties. The banking industry in Massachusetts reported solid earnings throughout 2006. The capital ratio for this state in 2006 was 9.5 percent, which is very high. Some of the loans which remained very popular are those which are related to commercial real estate. The number of past due loans in this state remained quite low.

The manufacturing industry continued to remain low in 2006. In fact, the manufacturing industry was at a -0.4%. The industry with the highest rate of growth was the goods/production industry, which sat at 2.3%. The unemployment rate for Massachusetts is much higher than other states, sitting at 5.5%. Like many other states within the U.S, the real estate market has slowed. Government related jobs are positive, but are much lower than many other states. It will be a few years before the office space market in this state sees dramatic improvements. The number of construction permits for single family units was a -17.5%. The sale of existing homes was higher than 12 percent.

Overall, Massachusetts saw a high rate of business growth during 2006, but many industries suffered. Some of the most prominent are real estate and manufacturing. Technology related jobs also experienced a decline, with a sizable number of job losses occurring in major cities. Since many technology related jobs have high salaries, losses in this sector can have a tremendous impact on the state as a whole. While an unemployment rate of 5% may be lower than the national average, it is still higher than many states, and it can be a sign of instability in various sectors.
