What does the NYC Restaurant Inspections Database cover?

Understand the snapshot, permit count, inspection context and missing details.

DatabasesNYC Restaurant Inspections Database

This release contains 31,462 NYC DOHMH restaurant and college-cafeteria permits in the October 2, 2026 source snapshot. It includes 3,865 permits not yet inspected. Permits are not unique companies or a guarantee of current operation.

Inspection history is the active-permit source slice, not a complete archive. A source inspection context can differ by program, action, score or grade, so multiple observations can refer to one physical visit. Related citations are not additional restaurants. Missing names and boroughs are explicit; grossly unsupported coordinates and invalid phone formats are withheld.

Scores and grades are separate source facts. Some inspection programs do not issue grades, reopening scores can differ from inherited grades, and adjudication can change results or remove citations. The reported grade summary uses DOHMH documented eligible-inspection rules. It never infers a letter from a score. Consult current NYC Health Department information for current conditions.
